Tuesday, September 25, 2007 – American Colors

A technical study in colors – specifically red, white and blue, starting with The Gershwin, 5533 Hollywood Boulevard, an unremarkable brick building from 1925 now turned into a rather fancy hostel with an additional fourteen hotel rooms, so maybe it's a hotel. The house on Roxbury in Beverly Hills where George and Ira Gershwin lived, and where they wrote all those famous songs, was torn down in 2005 – so this will do.  They just saved the wrong building.

Jazz is dead.  On the south side of the Capitol Records Building, Richard Wyatt's mural "Hollywood Jazz" shows that.

Let's end with the flag – at the Yucca Vine Tower, 6305-09 Yucca Street (at Vine), H. L. Gogerty of Gogerty & Weyl Architects, 1928, eight stories, Art Deco – very American.
