Tuesday, July 22, 2008 – Apocalyptic Hints

Some days everything seems ominous – there are signs and portents of the end of all things.  It may be just an advertisement for a new show of Japanese art at the county museum, but the tiger above the "99-Cents Only" at Fairfax and Wilshire probably disconcerts anyone stopped in the constant heavy traffic there. Something is up. And why is the tiger leering at that Bridal Expo sign?

Further down Fairfax, this may be a Beast of the Apocalypse, in the second shot being pursued by a halo of light (just lens-flare, actually) –

Under the beast, the message, so now you know, and you know the date –

But around the corner you can buy something that counters any sense of doom. The Hansen bakery specializes in erotic cakes. Of course these cakes may themselves be a sign of the end of everything.
