Saturday, January 26, 2008 – Curbside Chiaroscuro

Chiaroscuro – the use of effects representing contrasts of light, not necessarily strong, to achieve a sense of volume in modeling three-dimensional objects. The term originated as a name for a type of Renaissance drawing on colored paper where the artist worked from that base tone towards light, with white gouache, and dark, and then with ink and then watercolor.  Here it's just azalea, curbside in Beverly Hills.
