At CNN's west coast center, Sunset at Cahuenga - and perhaps a commentary on the Larry King "Fifty Years in the Business" anniversary shows they're taping a few floors above, all this coming week.  It may be a commentary on CNN.  It may be random.  It may be an appropriate framing of the reality of everyday life.

At The Church of the Blessed Sacrament (6657 Sunset Boulevard - Beezer Brothers, architects, 1928) - the first Catholic Church in the Hollywood area (1904), and the parish church for Irene Dunne and Loretta Young, where Bing Crosby married his first wife (Dixie Lee) in September 1930. The funeral of Carole Lombard's fiancÚ Russ Columbo was held here in 1934 - pallbearers Bing Crosby, Gilbert Roland and Zeppo Marx - Saint Clare of Assisi, born Chiara Offreduccio (July 16, 1194 - August 11, 1253) - one of the first followers of Francis of Assisi and founder of the Order of Poor Ladies to organize the women who chose to embrace monastic life in the Franciscan vision. Canonized September 26, 1255 by Pope Alexander IV - and patron saint of Clairvoyance, Eyes, Gilders, Gold, Good Weather, Needleworkers, Telephones, Telegraphs, and Television (you could look it up). Clarity. Chiaroscuro.

Most of these photographs were shot with a Nikon D70 - using lens (1) AF-S Nikkor 18-70 mm 1:35-4.5G ED, or (2) AF Nikkor 70-300mm telephoto, or after 5 June 2006, (3) AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor, 55-200 mm f/4-5.6G ED. They were modified for web posting using Adobe Photoshop 7.0. Earlier photography was done with a Sony Mavica digital still camera (MVC-FD-88) with built-in digital zoom.
