Friday, March 7, 2008 – Hollywood Telephoto

You notice different things on Hollywood Boulevard when you snap on the telephoto lens.  There's Jim Morrison's eye.

And there is a reason the site of every major movie premiere since 1927, Grauman's Chinese Theater, is called the Chinese –

The folks in front of the Chinese Theater don't seem Chinese at all –

Forget the fake Chinese stuff, and pay attention to the Art Deco detailing on the boulevard, left over from the twenties and thirties –

Detail of the Max Factor Building, Highland at Hollywood Boulevard - the Hollywood Fire and Safe building, built by C.E. Toberman in 1913, renovation design by theater architect S. Charles Lee (1899-1990) in Regency Deco style, completed in 1935

The moon dome is just odd –

From the architects of the Chinese Theater, more oddness a short block east, at the Hollywood First National Bank Building (originally the Pacific-Southwest Trust and Savings), 6777 Hollywood Boulevard – 1927-28, Meyer and Holler –
