Monday, June 11, 2007 – June Sunsets

Here in Hollywood, the pool an hour before sunset – the same old David Hockney geometry. He was an important contributor to the British Pop Art thing of the sixties, and may be considered one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, but his Los Angeles pool paintings seem, finally, without character. One shrugs at Warhol too, eventually.  It's the flatness of it all.  By way of contrast, a few hours earlier, the sunset from lower Manhattan has some depth.  Our friend, the high-powered Wall Street attorney, caught the sunset from the promenade just west of where the World Trade Center once stood – the landmarks and the Jersey shore.
