Tuesday, May 8, 2007 - Out of Context

Sometimes the world is best understood when context is removed, and you just get pure images.  Here's the Sunset Strip on a hot afternoon, images that give a feel for the place - advertisements stripped of content (what you are being sold), leaving only general cultural residue. It's like being in a foreign country, where you know something is being promoted, but you don't know the words and all you have is a sense of the culture and its core values. The kiosks of Paris can be like that - the images tell you a lot about the French when you simply stop trying to puzzle out the words. Here, the billboards on Sunset give you what we dream about.

The real world impinges itself on things.  In the distance - Dangerous Wildfire Forces Evacuations in LA's Griffith Park - "A wildfire roiled through rugged brush-covered hills in the city's sprawling Griffith Park on Tuesday, triggering evacuations of the city zoo, a museum and other popular sites as dangerously hot and dry conditions plagued Southern California."
