Saturday, June 28, 2008 – Tiger Lily

Woody Allen got his start in the movies with his original screenplay for "What's New Pussycat" (1965), but his directorial debut, sort of, was with "What's Up, Tiger Lily? (1966) – he took the Japanese action film "International Secret Police: Key of Keys" and re-dubbed it, changing the plot to make it revolve around the harrowing quest for a secret egg salad recipe. The studio added a few numbers by the Lovin' Spoonful – for no particular reason – and it was a hit.  He was on his way.

This is Tiger Lily (Lilium columbianum) – quite common – at the big park in the middle of Beverly Hills. This is what's up.
