Outside the realm of the tourists – east on Hollywood Boulevard past the freeway – are the few blocks between Wilton Place and before you get to Western Avenue, where the boulevard then turns into Thai Town.  This short stretch of Hollywood Boulevard is sort of a no man's land – away from stars in the sidewalk, trinket shops, famous theaters and double-deck tour buses.  Here there's no history, and no faded glamour.  There never was any here.  The blocks just to the west are Tinsel Town – they just reek of all that stuff about long-dead major movie stars and are filled with folks hoping to see someone now famous.  The blocks just to the east are Bangkok writ very small. This neighborhood is just life as it is lived out here, in full color.
