Saturday, October 31, 2009 – Quite Odd

Strelitzia reginae, or Crane Flower or Bird of Paradise – the scientific name commemorates Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, queen consort of King George III. You remember King George III – lost the American colonies in our revolution, and then went quite mad. They made a movie about his madness – it won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction, and was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Nigel Hawthorne) and a few other things. But this seems to be a snail.

Ah, a rosebud and a tiny, nasty fly. One thinks of William Blake.

Above it all –
