Friday, May 20, 2011 – Not Now

Casa Granada, 1334-6, North Harper Avenue, West Hollywood

North Harper Avenue actually runs south, downhill from the Sunset Strip, and turns into the North Harper Avenue Historic District – Bette Davis lived in a fancy penthouse apartment at the top of the hill, and down the hill Leland a. Bryant designed an apartment building called Casa Granada – Joe E. Brown, Norma Talmadge and Gilbert Roland, among others, lived here. It was the early thirties, and when the present gets to be too much there's always the past. Harper Avenue is good place to walk around on a nasty Friday afternoon in 2011 – a sort of time machine. You can be elsewhere.

The view west is of the Sunset Tower Hotel at 8358 Sunset Boulevard – designed in 1929 by Leland A. Bryant – with its amazing history

And there's an angel right here on Harper – "The Lightness of Being" – 2003, Patrick T, McGrath – and that helps.
