"Notes on how things seem from out here in Hollywood..."

Setting Up for the Oscars on Hollywood Boulevard

The 79th Annual Academy Awards for "outstanding film achievements of 2006" were presented on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at the Kodak Theater at Hollywood and Highland Center - the day this issue went online. Five days earlier riggers were setting things up, and that block of Hollywood Boulevard was closed for the whole week before the thing.  It's the big deal out here. Last year you got A Taste of Hollywood at Oscar Time - five nested pages of shots from 26 February. This year, here's the actual work in progress to make the thing work - Tuesday, February 20.

Actually, this British crew was asking passers-by what they remembered about 9/11 - where they were and how they reacted.

If you use any of these photos for commercial purposes I assume you'll discuss that with me.

These were shot with a Nikon D70 - using lens (1) AF-S Nikkor 18-70 mm 1:35-4.5G ED, or (2) AF Nikkor 70-300mm telephoto, or after 5 June 2006, (3) AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor, 55-200 mm f/4-5.6G ED. They were modified for web posting using Adobe Photoshop 7.0

The original large-format raw files are available upon request.

So, if you were a movie star attending this thing, you pass under this gold curtain draped over the red carpet at the entrance to the Kodak Theater.  You turn to wave back at your screaming fans before you take your seat, and glance up, wondering what you're doing here.
