Monday, November 10, 2008 – Hendricks and Spock

Capturing the fleeting sense of Hollywood, and how it's all chimera, is always a challenge - it's photographing shadows of what was always artifice anyway, so you are recording the residue of what people wanted to be true but knew all along wasn't true at all.  You're twice removed.  Walking around Hollywood with the camera is like walking through the world America wants to pretend might be real but knows full well isn't real at all.  Sometimes you feel like a therapist – and sometimes it's just strange, like down on Melrose Avenue.

Mister Spock, from Star Trek, imagined another way –

This, to the left, is mysterious –

But you are welcome upstairs –

Okay, the real world of Hollywood – a Jaguar convertible, a Mercedes, and a Ferrari –

The new guy is watching over it all –
