Wednesday, March 25, 2009 – At Fifteen

The Quinceañera or Quince años ("fifteen years") in Latin American culture is the coming of age ceremony held on a girl's fifteenth birthday – something like a Bat Mitzvah, but not exactly.  This is the famous Quinceañera mural by Theresa Powers, assisted by Carolina Flores - Lemoyne Street and Sunset Boulevard, in Echo Park. It's painted on the east wall of Pescado Mohado – a good place for fish tacos. When Linda Ronstadt lived in the neighborhood you'd often find her here, and she likes the mural too. She still drops by the place now and then.
