At the Snow White Café - 6769 Hollywood Boulevard

The building that houses the Snow White Café – 6769 Hollywood Boulevard – the café has been there since 1946, but the building is older, and strange. Disney artists did the original murals inside the café – lots of Snow White of course – and maybe they had a hand in the exterior motif – the Seven Dwarfs and all that. But it is disturbing. On the other hand, the Happy Hour here is just fine – good cheap beer by the pitcher. Snow White, indeed.

Next door, different symbolism – the Hollywood First National Bank – 6777 Hollywood Boulevard, at Highland – from 1927 – Meyer and Holler, the architects, also designed the Chinese Theater one block west. At the time it was the tallest building in Los Angeles. It's a bit of a cathedral – but not a physical exaltation in stone and glass of God and faith, but of commerce and wealth and science and progress, and dominance. It’s empty now.
