Ocean Front Walk, under the Santa Monica Pier

Route 66 - the Will Rogers Highway or the "Main Street of America" or the "Mother Road" – one of the original US highways, established on November 11, 1926 – ran from Chicago through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, and ended in Los Angeles, all 2,448 miles of it, at the Santa Monica Pier. This is how America got to where things would be fine. You could reinvent yourself in sunny Southern California. But it turned out that this was just another place. And America ends here. There's nowhere else to go.
