Yes, at the Griffith Park Observatory they have one of these

And in the rotunda the first exhibit visitors encountered in 1935 when the place opened – the Foucault pendulum. You know the deal. The two-hundred-forty-pound brass ball, suspended on a forty foot cable, swings in a constant direction while the Earth turns beneath it.  As the day passes, the pendulum knocks over pegs set up in the pendulum pit and indicates the progress of the earth's rotation.  You can watch it all day, or you can read Umberto Eco.

Imagine a high school field trip – say in 1955, in a famous movie.  James Dean, Natalie Wood and Dennis Hopper walk through this door and the lights dim – Sal Mineo get scared – then many other things happen.  It starts here.

When you walk out of the planetarium look up – the sun is still shining –
