Tuesday, September 29, 2009 – Heliotrope Drive

At the former Bicycle Kitchen, 706 North Heliotrope Drive at Melrose Avenue, at the edge of the Los Angeles City College campus

The area is called Hel-Mel – where Melrose Avenue and Heliotrope Drive meet, way south of Hollywood, at the edge of the Los Angeles City College campus. It's beyond hip, or here, hip is rather beside the point. The Bicycle Kitchen, at 706 North Heliotrope Drive, used to be a non-profit space filled with tools and stands for working on bicycles, with volunteers on hand to help with building and repair questions. They'd request a donation of seven bucks per hour, but if you were broke that was okay – no need to pay. And they always had spare bikes and scrap parts on hand.

That didn't work out. Now it's abandoned and empty. Only the graphics remain.
