Tuesday, May 18, 2010 – Whims of the Rich

Odd house under construction on the corner of Walden Drive and Carmelita Avenue in Beverly Hills

Of course it's on Walden. That would be the corner of Walden Drive and Carmelita Avenue in Beverly Hills, amid the very nice houses that, when they come up for sale – very rarely – sell for six to eight million dollars or much more. Most of these houses, while large, are quite unostentatious, on purpose. Here no one has to flaunt their success and vast wealth. That would be unseemly. It's assumed. But now and then you get something like this. If you have the bucks you can build anything you damned well please.

Across the street, someone has decided to go the other way. You can see what they think of their success.
