Monday, July 5, 2010 – Destroy All Design

Destroy All Design, Melrose Avenue, Hollywood

It's not what it seems. Go to the Destroy All Design website – there you can buy quite expensive copies of all the carefully designed graphic art, all of which proclaim the uselessness of graphic art and of design itself – and proclaim themselves to be subversive. If you have the bucks, well, you too can be hip and against the system, and against the pervasive culture. If you don’t have the bucks you're out of luck. And of course there's a Facebook page. The irony is too obvious for comment. This is how the counterculture in America works. We don't have one, as the idea is to make money. But there's a lot of that going around these days.
